Youth Work, Improving practice series
(2002)
This resource presents five case studies
exploring what global youth work means
in a range of informal learning settings.
The projects aim to look beyond the
local to the global influences on
young people today, offering a flavour
of global youth work in practice.
The case studies include project outlines,
the story of each project including
the reflections of the workers and
young people involved. They aim to
inspire youth workers through glimpses
of what global youth work is like,
what can and has been done.

This resource handbook for youth workers
introduces key themes relating to
citizenship. With over 60 practical
activities it aims to help young people
explore issues such as rights and
responsibilities, voting and the democratic
process, fairness and social justice,
and global and environmental issues.

Education Environment Project (2002)
This manual provides guidance on setting
up peer environment projects and offers
a framework of good practice for recruiting,
training and supporting peer educators.
It includes a training programme that
can be used and adapted to equip young
people in their role as peer environment
educators and activities that peer
educators can use in educating other
young people.

Action Plan for Education and Skills
(2003)
The Action Plan was launched by the Department
for Education and Skills (DfES) in
September 2003 and builds on the work
of the Sustainable Development Education
Panel and the Environmental Audit
Committee's report Learning the
Sustainability Lesson. The Action
Plan aims to encourage wider participation
in sustainable development in all
education and skills sectors and is
organised around four key objectives:
education for sustainable development;
the environmental impact of the Department
and its partner bodies;
the environmental impact of
the education estate; and local and
global partnership activity.

Sustainable Development
Education Panel annual reports (1998-2003)
The Government set up the Sustainable
Development Education Panel (SDEP)
in 1998. The Panel's brief was to
consider issues on education for sustainable
development in schools, further and
higher education, at work, during
recreation and at home, and to make
practical recommendations for action
in England. The Panel's five year
term has now come to an end and its
work is being taken forward in other
ways.

Sustainable Development

This DEA/CEE briefing paper aims to
explain how and why the concept of
sustainable development can be integrated
into current youth work thinking and
practice. It outlines a model for
sustainable development and youth
work, sets out key concepts to explain
what sustainable development means
and makes a series of recommendations
for action by youth services, the
Connexions Service, the DfES and youth
and community work training agencies.

Transforming
Youth Work (2002)
This document outlines the Government
strategy for the future of work with
young people aged 13-19. In particular,
it stresses the youth services role
in support of the work of the new
Connexions Service. This DfES document
also outlines a set of youth work
values, as well as generic standards
