The international dimension in education refers to institutional linkages between countries that lead to learning about another locality, intercultural understanding and sharing of particular areas of educational practice between institutions.

The Department for Education and Skills' (DfES) International Strategy Putting the World into World Class Education (2004) sets out their plans for this area and also includes a section on the global dimension to education. You can download a copy of the strategy from the the Teachernet website.

The DfES international dimension website is www.globalgateway.org. This website is administered by the British Council who are key players in this area and administer a range of programmes to support international school links, institutional partnerships, staff development and educational exchange.
