CAFOD - Development Education Fund

Through its work CAFOD aims to increase awareness of poverty and injustice in the world and the structures which cause them.

The aim of this fund is to provide support for groups and organizations involved in global justice education work in England and Wales in order to further CAFOD's strategic goals and education priorities.

Christian Aid - Development Education Grants

Christian Aid has an annual grant round for development education. Areas supported include: religious education; PSE; Active Global Citizenship; Church related global awareness, leading to campaigning action. Projects must be complementary to Christian Aid's in-house educational work. Copies of the guidelines and procedures are available from local Christian Aid offices.

Churches Commission for Racial Justice (CCRJ)
- Racial Justice Fund

The Racial Justice Fund demonstrates the Churches' concern for racial justice in Britain and Ireland by making grants primarily to organisations which combat racism by the enabling and empowerment of Black communities.

Methodist Relief and Development (MRDF)

Funds are available for development education activities which work directly with Methodist Churches and their members, and for projects in the UK which seek to increase the opportunities of the marginalised. MRDF engages with broader issues and themes which challenge global injustice such as the Debt Campaign and Trade Justice Movement.

Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF)

SCIAF has a mini-grants scheme (maximum grant of £5,000) for organisations based or operating in Scotland. It encourages small groups to get started in development education activities and offers more established groups support for specific projects.

OXFAM's Development Education Grants

Working with the formal education sector in England, Scotland and Wales, the Oxfam Development Education programme aims:

  • to influence changing education agendas to create the most conducive environment to establish global citizenship as essential education
  • to maximise the impact and reach of global citizenship concepts through engaging with new and current audiences
  • to provide evidence that using global citizenship methodology and content improves participation and achievement.

A 3-tier grant support programme helps achieve these aims. Tier 1 offers programme and project support for Development Education Centres (DECs) and other organisations promoting DE to the formal education sector at a local level, and for national DE networks. Tier 2 supports regional and national EES strategy developments and training. Tier 3 funds new and innovative development education projects.

UNICEF

Provides funding for for Development Education Centres (DECs)/practitioners to undertake inservice training for UNICEF on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to teachers. These funds are allocated as grants to DECs for them to disseminate to their staff or agreed attached practitioners, who are trained members of UNICEF's Education Support Service (ESS).

You can search for trusts and foundations that may support particular areas of work using 'Funder-finder' software. Your local Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) may have a copy available for general use. Use the National Association of Councils for Voluntary Service website to find your local CVS.

The Institute of Fundraising is the professional body for UK fundraisers. It has many long-standing special interest groups for different areas of fundraising, including the Trusts Special Interest Group (TSIG), which provides a forum for fundraisers who are working to raise funds from charitable trusts and foundations.
