Adult, community and further education

A diverse network of DEA members work directly within further education, adult learning and in the community to support tutors and community groups interested in bringing a global dimension to their activities.
- Approach: This type of education for adults starts from people's own experiences; uses participatory learning methods; develops independent learning; engages the learners in critical analysis of the links between local and global issues; and enables them to convert their global concerns into appropriate action.
- Case studies: A global perspective can be central to education for adults within a local learning environment - at a college or in a worker's education class, for adult literacy, cookery, maths, languages or business studies - and to learning within the community - in a women's group, a church or other religious community, a voluntary organisation - any context where adults are engaged in learning. Find out more through our examples of practice.
- Resources: A range of DEA publications can provide more detailed information. Visit our publications section and search under 'Adult, community and further education'.
- Training and events: The DEA and its members run a variety of training opportunities. See the events calendar for details.
- Policy and advocacy: The DEA plays a key role in keeping members informed about policy developments and keeping policy makers informed about members’ work, issues and priorities. Visit the policy section of this website for policy briefings and information about current and future consultations.
