A diverse network of DEA members work within schools and initial teacher education to support teachers, advisers and teacher trainers in bringing global perspectives to the classroom.

  • Approach: In work with the schools sector, DEA members use the framework of the Global Dimension in the School Curriculum to support schools in developing a global dimension to all curriculum subjects and the whole school.

  • Resources: The Global Dimension website for teachers is a free online database of resources plus case studies of school projects, information on school speaker services and continuing professional development opportunities. You can also search under 'schools' or 'initial teacher education and training' in the publications section of the DEA website to find advice on developing global perspectives in schools, specific subject areas and initial teacher education.

  • Training and events: Visit our events calendar for details of training opportunities or contact DEA members who may offer tailor-made training, workshops and conferences for teachers.

  • Policy and advocacy: DEA plays a key role in keeping members informed about policy developments and keeping policy makers informed about members’ work, issues and priorities. Visit the policy section of this website for national policy briefings and information about current consultations.

  • Current DEA priorities: in addition to ongoing work supporting members and working with policymakers, DEA is working in partnership with a number of subject associations to support teachers in integrating global perspectives within specific subject areas. Find out more...

  • Enabling Effective Support: Many DEA members are involved in DFID's Enabling Effective Support initiative, which supports the development of locally owned strategies to achieve more comprehensive, high quality support to teachers for the delivery of the global dimension. Find out more...

  • Initial Teacher Education and Training (ITET): DEA also seeks to embed the global dimension into ITET. Find out more...
