Making global connections in youth work
Young people have shown their concern about the inequalities
that exist in the world for many years. This key report by the DEA
argued that this concern needed to be recognised with the youth
service through closer cooperation with non-governmental organisations
working in development and youth work.
Through a series of interviews with leading NGOs, voluntary youth
organisations and local authority officers, the report recommended
the need for a coordinated training programme, production of more
resources aimed specifically at the youth work sector, and recognition
by national and local government of the importance of global perspectives
and connections in youth work.
Essential reading for anyone interested in the history and development
of this field of work, the report established the concept and key
elements of 'global youth work' and has formed the basis of the
DEA's youth work initiatives, as well as many of our partners, to
date.
