Goals for DECs cover

This leaflet was produced in liaison with DECs in recognition of the crucial role that the network of over 40 DEA-accredited Centres have played in shaping development education in the UK and the models that they offer for the local provision of development education. DECs and the DEA felt that, with the growth and levels of interest in global perspectives in education, there was a need to clarify the role and purposes of DECs.

These Goals are suggested guidelines that DECs aspire to based on examples of practice, methods and approaches that Centres use and which are commonly regarded as the main purposes and functions of DECs. The document can be used in training, induction, with management committees and in work with local partners.

It sets out key goals for services, partnerships, development education expertise, structures and local accountability, staffing, equal opportunities, networking and sustainability. It may also be useful as the basis for discussion for locally-based groups interested in setting up a DEC.
