29 April 2008 - New DEA/DFID newspaper supplement goes national
On Tuesday 29 April the Guardian published a joint DEA/ Department for International Development supplement on global learning. Entitled Think Global, it brings news and features about global learning to a national audience.
The supplement includes excerpts from interviews with DEA staff talking about the work of the organisation and some of the many reasons why it is so important. Hetan Shah, DEA Chief Executive says, "Business needs people who can see the world from a variety of perspectives... We operate in a global marketplace. There's a real push on corporate social responsibility, so these skills are in demand."
Features in Think Global include year six at Redlands primary school learning and thinking about where their food and clothes come from, and the wider effects that their particular form of school transport might carry. 10-year-old Amy Dominian, find that the exercise has made her consider the working conditions of those who made the clothes she's wearing, "I was reading this series of books and something caught my eye about modern day slavery. I decided to look it up on the internet and I was really surprised that children were working every day in really appalling conditions and they get paid a few pence a day. They were probably the same age as me and could be at school if they could afford it. That's not very good."
