5 July 2007 - New DEA Vision and Mission
The DEA has updated its vision and mission to communicate more clearly and to a wider audience the changes we are trying to create.
Our vision is of:
Education that encourages and enables all people to think critically and to aspire and work towards a just and sustainable world.
Our mission is to:
Promote education that puts learning in a global context, fostering critical and creative thinking; self-awareness and open-mindedness towards difference; understanding of global issues and power relationships; and optimism and action for a better world.
We want to communicate this vision in a way that people can connect to. We believe that the term "development education" is increasingly a barrier to effectively communicating our message and working with partners, so we will be experimenting with language to see how we can improve this.
To this end we have decided it is also time to change our name. We would like members to help think of a new name for the organisation - one that better communicates our vision than "Development Education Association". Please send your ideas to Hetan Shah by Tuesday 28 August 2007.
DEA Council will pick the new name from suggestions we receive and will bring it to the AGM on Thursday 22 November 2007 for our members' approval.
