SoundAffects works to enhance existing school twinning links through the use of high quality recorded audio material. Children work with professional radio broadcasters to tell their stories, ask and respond to each other’s questions, and contribute to joint curriculum projects. Audio material is heard at linked schools, and also issued on compact disc as a development education tool for any interested schools in the UK and in the developing world. Eventually recordings will also be made available via the project’s website. In addition, SoundAffects provides training for developing world journalists, and supports them as they take over the in-country recording operation, thus making the audio links sustainable.
