Beacons: Development Education Centre for Herefordshire and Worcestershire |
Beacons' mainstream work is with schools within the jurisdiction of Hereford and Worcester LEAs, through outreach and provision of resources for borrowing. More recently the Centre has adopted a new role in providing informational links between organisations and individuals in the two counties involved in development activities, through an annual conference, local seminars and a newsletter, and encouraging development links with overseas educational and other institutions, with an emphasis on rural development. The Centre maintains a comprehensive resource library and its website will eventually hold a full catalogue of resources at the Centre, as well as provide a forum for members to exchange news and discuss development issues. |
Bournemouth University |
Bournemouth University recognises the critical importance of ensuring that its graduates are able to contribute effectively within a global society and, with this aim in mind, all Schools across the University are developing a global perspectives within the curriculum. This encompasses global citizenship, sustainable development and multicultural working, all areas where the University has achieved external recognition for its innovative teaching and learning activities. Complementary activity aimed at internationalising the student experience at Bournemouth is also underway. The University's membership of DEA and engagement with its activities underpins this approach to developing higher education. |
BRAC UK |
BRAC UK's mission is the alleviation of poverty and empowerment of the poor in the UK, Africa and Asia. BRAC UK's goal is to support disadvantaged people to: break the barriers of poverty through economic development; increase their opportunities for education; improve their health; and to uphold their human rights. BRAC UK's main area of focus are: adaptation of the successful BRAC approach and models for programme implementation among diaspora communities in the UK, advocacy for development led by the south and fundraising for BRAC programmes in Africa and Asia. |
Bridges - Making Global Connections |
Bridges is a development education centre based in Telford, and working largely in Shropshire. It works with local organisations on a variety of development education projects. Bridges has a resource centre and supplies fairtrade products to local organisations providing books and other resources for sale or loan. |
Brighton Peace and Environment Centre |
The Brighton Peace and Environment Centre aims to raise awareness and understanding of social justice, peace, sustainable development and environmental protection matters by providing information, education and positive practical solutions to global problems. BPEC works together with community groups, schools, government departments, bodies, businesses and the wider public. |
British Council |
DFID Global School Partnerships encourages the development of educational and sustainable school partnerships between schools in the UK and schools in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The programme provides advice and guidance, professional development opportunities and grants to schools that are using their partnership to embed a global dimension in the curriculum. DFID Global School Partnerships is a consortium initiative of the British Council, Cambridge Education Foundation UK, One World Linking Association (UKOWLA) and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), funded by the Department for International Development. |
British Red Cross |
The British Red Cross Humanitarian Strategy: Humanitarian Education,

of Humanitarian Education is to develop responsible citizens prepared
