This web site is an electronic users pack for organisations interested in measuring the effectiveness of development education programmes with the concepts, questions and tools to consider in evaluating their work.
This guide is one of the main outcomes of a two-year research project undertaken by the Development Education Association funded by Department For International Development with the aim of helping development education practitioners plan and evaluate their work more effectively. It has been an action research project with the emphasis on consultation, learning from the experience of other sectors of education with the consultants on the project acting as 'critical friends' to people working on evaluation. The project has had as its principal aim the development of the capacity of organisations and practitioners to plan and evaluate their development education work effectively. See the discussion document which presents the main issues and themes to arise from the measuring effectiveness project. A Steering Group of academics and practitioners, chaired by DFID, has provided support to the project. A team of consultants led by Dr Ann McCollum and supported by Dr Aileen McKenzie, Shehnaaz Kanji and John Wood has undertaken the research for the project. The team has been responsible for undertaking the case study work (in collaboration with the pilot organisations) and producing this document. The DEA Policy and Projects Officer, Eve Billingham (now left) supported the project. This web site was co-ordinated by DEA Policy and Projects Officer, Eve Billingham and designed by zero-g web. Here is a listing of the main sections of this Users Guide. |
